The humble seven-inch record is often thought of as the quintessential indie artefact, so it was only a matter of time until U.S. Highball dabbled in the much-loved format. The result is “Aggi Road”, their first release under the name of The U.S. Highball Band.
As the temporary name-change might give away, the band’s line-up has expanded for this release, growing to a fierce foursome. Foundational members James Hindle and Calvin Halliday have drafted in their friends Lauren Paige Dowling and Tom Diffenthal - previously of Mr Ben & the Bens, and also known collectively as DIY duo Family Selection Box - to ably assist on bass and guitar, respectively, as well as lending their vocal talents to the mix.
“Aggi Road” was mostly recorded live to tape at Green Door Studio on an unusually warm and sunny Glasgow afternoon, then finished off with minimal overdubs at home. In contrast to the dense, unconventional arrangements often found on U.S. Highball’s full-length albums, the three unfussy earworms that comprise “Aggi Road” are comparatively stripped-back, evoking the scrappy, no-nonsense energy of classic ‘80s indie-pop.
“Aggi Road” is strictly limited 100 copies. Each riso-printed sleeve is numbered, the record’s labels have all been hand-stamped, and every copy comes with a sticker pack, an A4 insert, and seeds for planting.
